Take a New Look at J&L Wire

Tuesday, July 1, 2008

For over 25 years, J&L Wire Cloth has provided the material handling industry with quality wire products, including wire decking, woven wire and industrial wire.

“We produce a product that is referred to as GalvaDeck, used in conjunction with rack products for distribution centers,” said General Sales Manager Jim Rudolph.

The St. Paul, Minn.-based company, founded in 1980, also produces wire flooring and confinement panels for the agricultural industry and remains a market leader in
galvanized woven wire flooring.

“Not only do we make the finished product, but we draw and produce the wire ourselves,” said General Sales Manager Jim Rudolph. “A lot of the competition doesn’t draw their own wire. We’ve eliminated one step of the process.”

J&L Wire Cloth is known for providing both quality service and support. With same-day quotes for big and small projects, J&L Wire Cloth will deliver your decking within a matter of weeks.

“Typically, our lead times are two to four weeks from receipt of specification approval, Jim Rudolph said. J&L Wire Cloth currently has one manufacturing plant in Minneapolis, Minn. and distribution centers in Ohio and Nevada.

Most of the decking made by J&L Wire Cloth is custom order.

“We can make different widths, mesh patterns and channels, which will increase capacities,” Rudolph explained. Persons interested in purchasing wire decking can submit a request for a quote or click on a link to initiate contact. “Typically we are selling to a rack manufacturer or a systems integrator.”

Normally, Rudolph said, a representative will contact the customer the same day and no later than 24 hours later. J&L Wire Cloth was purchased by American Spring Wire in 2007 and just completed the first full year under new ownership

“They’ve done a nice job of maintaining the business and growing,” Rudolph said.
The acquisition was strategic for both companies, offering the ability to share wire making and wire fabrication technologies as well as opportunities to fine-tune products and a chance to expand into other markets.

“It’s a good fit,” Rudolph said. “It helped us diversify our business and corporation.

The company is actively involved with MHEDA, something they started doing again under American Spring Wire’s ownership.

Rudolph noted that the companies try to stay diversified in the markets and businesses they are in so that, hopefully, none of are in a downturn at the same time. The contributions of the new ownership also included creation of a new webpage.

“The product itself had no major modifications or changes,” he said. “We’re developing a new look for the company.”

With knowledgeable staff, J&L Wire Cloth can help you establish the correct decking for the intended use. In addition, their associates can track your shipment through their system to give accurate updates at any time.
