Storage Solutions Marks 30 Years of Growth

Wednesday, December 31, 2008

WESTFIELD, IN — Storage Solutions, the nation’s leading provider of industrial storage and material handling equipment, celebrates 30 years of steady growth by moving into a larger facility located in Westfield, Indiana. Based in Hamilton County since its founding in 1978, the private company began in a 5,000 square foot facility in Carmel, Indiana, and has gradually grown to include more than 90 employees in a 300,000 square foot facility.

“We are thrilled to be consolidating our three former locations into one large facility,” says Craig McElheny, owner and C.E.O. “We expect to see operational efficiency, as well as increased camaraderie among our employees.”

Storage Solutions has averaged more than 20% annual growth over the last five years. This steady growth is fueled by consistent quality, exceptional customer service and employee loyalty. Ten percent of the company’s employees have been with the company at least ten years.

The collaborative attitude of the company comes from its top managers, who are long-time friends. Craig McElheny, owner and C.E.O., and Kevin Rowles, president, played basketball together at Carmel High School. They met up with Bill Beeker when the three were students at Ball State University. Although they went separate ways following graduation, they eventually pooled their skills at Storage Solutions, where they continue to build and manage the company.

“Of course we got along and liked hanging out together, but, more importantly, we work well together,” explains McElheny. “Our strengths complement one another. By focusing on each person’s best abilities we’ve become a strong management team, guiding the company’s success.”

Owner and C.E.O. Craig McElheny prefers to focus on the “big picture” and sets the strategic direction of the company. President Kevin Rowles deals with the day-to-day details of running the business operations, while Bill Beeker as C.F.O. is the “numbers” guy.

Much of the company’s success stems from the loyalty and service of its employees. The company recognizes the nuances of accommodating individuals with varying work styles.

“One of our greatest challenges in designing our new office space was merging the needs of people who enjoy working collaboratively with those who prefer independence,” says Rowles. “We strive to provide a working environment that fosters success. That means balancing the needs of technology-savvy folks with those who would rather not use a keyboard at all. The point is to have everyone working toward common goals -- no matter how they choose to work.”

Storage Solutions offers a complete spectrum of services - from design, to sales of new and used equipment, to professional installation, and even buy back of your old equipment. In 2007 the company supplied and installed more than ten million square feet of rack systems. Warehouse sizes ranged from 2,000 to two million square feet. Storage Solutions crews have installed equipment in 38 U.S. states, as well as in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
