Presto! An Impressive Array of Ergonomic Lift Equipment

Tuesday, February 1, 2011

Presto Lifts Inc. offers a complete line of durable ergonomic lift equipment that improves safety and productivity. For more than 60 years, the company has designed and manufactured portable and stationary hydraulic lift tables, pneumatic scissor lifts, powered and manual stackers, container tilters, hand pallet trucks, pallet positioners, skid lifters, turntables, dock equipment, die-handling equipment, and more.

A sampling of Presto Lift Products:

Presto Scissor Lifts: Stationary scissor-lift tables are available in a variety of sizes and capacities.

PowerStak™: Loaded with ergonomic features, this fully powered stacker is available with lift heights up to 150” in fork-over, adjustable-straddle, and counterbalanced designs.

P3™ Pneumatic Load Leveler
: The P3™ Pneumatic Load Leveler allows operators to build or break down pallet loads with a minimum of bending, reaching, stretching, or walking around.

P4 Load Leveler: This unit, which can be fed by a hand pallet truck, facilitates the manual loading and unloading of pallets.

Skid Lifter: Designed to work with skids or open-bottom pallets.

In addition to our standard models, we offer custom-designed solutions. Whether it is adding capacity, increasing lift height, or modifying platform size, our engineers work directly with customers to supply the perfect product for specific application requirements.

For example, the safety manager at an Ohio manufacturing plant was concerned about the number of sprains and strains among employees assembling stainless steel exhaust systems for the marine and automotive aftermarket. To minimize bending and stretching at each stage of the finishing process, employees needed some sort of platform with a user-friendly height-adjustment mechanism. And the platform had to be mobile for the bulky components, which can weigh up to 120 pounds, to be easily moved from one station to the next.

The solution was a customized Presto Lifts portable manual scissor lift that can be raised and lowered with an easy-to-use, hydraulic foot pedal system. So the components on the lift would not get scratched, Presto added a non-marring work surface. For easy rolling and turning, the lift was outfitted with oversized wheels. The unit also features a foot-operated floor lock.

Another success story took place at a South Carolina aluminum facility, where concerns about production-line bottlenecks and the potential for employee back injuries led management to purchase Presto Lifts equipment that has nipped both problems in the bud.

The plant produces several different aluminum parts, which are transported to workstations in large wire baskets. To access a part for further processing, employees had to bend over and reach down into the basket to lift it out. As the level of parts in a container dropped, the employee had to bend lower and reach deeper, causing fatigue and back strain and robbing valuable time from the process.

Presto Lifts engineers produced an animated 3-D video clip that showed how several Presto Lifts container tilters could solve the problem.

Workers now use pushbutton hand-held pendants or pedestal-mounted controls to hydraulically adjust the parts basket to the most convenient angle as the container is depleted, so parts are kept within easy reach. Management reports that bottlenecks have been eliminated and production lines have sped up.
