Jervis B. Webb Company Awarded Multi-Million Dollar Contract For Baggage Handling System At Dallas Love Field Airport

Monday, August 8, 2011

Jervis B. Webb Company — a subsidiary of Daifuku Webb Holding Company, and leading provider of innovative material handling solutions —announced a contract with Southwest Airlines to design, manufacture, and install an inbound and outbound Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS) at Dallas Love Field Airport. The baggage handling system (BHS) is part of the Love Field Modernization Project, which includes building a new terminal.

Webb’s new BHS will consist of four Explosive Detection Systems (EDS) that are fed by four ticket counters and two curbside input systems. Webb’s system will automatically transport checked bags from ticket counters and curbside through the baggage screening process and eventually to airplanes.

The new EDS and baggage sortation system will incorporate Webb’s industry standard baggage handling system components, including 45 degree merges, queuing conveyors, three sloped plate make-up units, four sloped plate claim units and vertical sortation units.

“We look forward to providing a state-of-the-art baggage handling system that will accommodate the anticipated future increase in travelers at Dallas Love Field Airport,” said Kenneth Hamel, Webb’s Sr. Vice President of Airport Systems. “We work hard to ensure that our systems make travel easier and more convenient for passengers around the world.”

In 2014, airline executives expect travel to increase at Dallas Love Field Airport due to the repeal of the Wright Amendment, which allows airlines to operate non-stop service from the airport to distant destinations.

The outbound project is scheduled for completion November 2012 and the inbound system is scheduled for completion October 2014.
