HMF fit Mezzanine Floor for Friends of King Alfred

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

HIGHLY REGARDED principal contractor Hampshire Mezzanine Floors (HMF) successfully fitted a new mezzanine floor for King Alfred’s friendly bus charity.

Friends of King Alfred, based near Winchester are a charitable trust of enthusiasts who preserve buses and coaches, continuing from the famous local bus company; King Alfred Motor Services.

The vibrant vehicles bore the likeness of King Alfred himself on their side panels.

HMF engaged in the process of maximising the available space within Friends of King Alfred’s new workshop by installing a new mezzanine floor in order to increase storage of displaced parts as well as other materials used in the restoration and maintenance of their old and rare buses.

The project, which replicated the colours of the old buses with a dark green colour scheme further portrayed fine examples of HMF’s work with a storage platform of 4.8kN/m². This permitted the potential storage of up to half a tonne per pallet up onto the mezzanine structure or significant point loads for small part shelving.

Part of the decision making process for the locality of the mezzanine was to fit a steel partition from the mezzanine up to the underside of the roof to segregate the building into two areas. In order to reduce installation time, HMF ensured that the partitioning was pre-manufactured away from site and was installed using steel mullion posts fitted with special plates fitted from the mezzanine up to the roof.

“We have been delighted with the top quality service that we have enjoyed from HMF Ltd. They have assisted us every step of the way, were endlessly patient as we finalised our exact requirements and then delivered a top quality product with amazing speed.” - James Freeman, Chairman of Friends of King Alfred Buses
