Godwin Manufacturing Co., Inc. Purchases 12 T&U (The Hytsu Group) Lift Trucks from BST Equipment, LLC

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

Back in 1966, J. Pat (Pat) Godwin began in his backyard garage what is known today as the largest privately (family) owned and operated truck body and equipment manufacturer in the United States. Godwin Manufacturing Co., Inc., with affiliated companies in Dunn, NC (also headquarters), Winesburg, OH, Ivel, KY and San Juan, Puerto Rico, became incorporated in 1975 and currently employs 180 throughout its four locations.

Despite its size, Godwin Mfg. is a family business at heart. Pat, along with his wife Judy, their son and grandchildren all work at the company. But family doesn’t end there. The property and buildings that add up to 156 acres and 345,000 square feet also includes a modern daycare facility at the disposal of employees and their children – at no cost.

Recently, when Godwin decided he wanted to standardize and replace is aging fleet of trucks, he sought out his neighbor, Gary Strickland of BST Equipment, in the small town of Dunn, NC. According to Gary, “Pat had 45 trucks in his fleet and they were all getting tired.” Gary has worked in the business most of his life and purchased BST quipment 3 years ago. “It’s been tough keeping a new business afloat in a feeble economy. We’ve had to tighten our belts and the staff has really chipped in to help make it work.”

Godwin was excited to help out a fledgling business in the material handling industry, and keep the money in the community that helped support his business in the early, leaner years. By all accounts, the business deal was a perfect match for both parties as Godwin purchased a 12 unit lift truck order from BST Equipment, LLC.

Purchased were (8) T&U FG15T’s – 3000 lb. gasoline powered/ pneumatic lift trucks and (4) T&U FG 20T’s 4000 lb. gasoline powered/ pneumatic lift trucks. T&U Lift trucks are manufactured by the Hytsu Group and distributed in U.S. by Global Products LTD and its president, Bob Lemmer, located in Germantown, WI.

The Godwin Group offers a diverse assortment of truck equipment including dump bodies, platforms, rollback carriers, heavy duty trailers, hoists and snow removal equipment.

BST Equipment, LLC is not only a dealer for T&U, they are also a full service dealer for TCM Forklifts and Club Car commercial vehicles.
