CONEXPO-CON/AGG Named Largest North America-based Show; Co-located IFPE Growth Also Cited

Friday, May 15, 2009

CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008, the international construction industries exposition, has been named the largest trade show ever held in North America, according to the just-released “Top 200” analysis conducted by Tradeshow Week magazine. The 2008 show achieved double digit growth in all indexes charted - more than 21 percent net square exhibit footage, more than 11 percent number of exhibitors, and more than 13.5 percent attendance.

For the first time ever, the co-located IFPE, International Fluid Power Exposition was named to the Top 200 list, and it received special mention as one of the few shows to post significant increases in attendance (number 4 in attendee growth). The show ranked 195 on the list.

The rankings are based on size of exhibit space, and the analysis is conducted annually. The triennial CONEXPO-CON/AGG has been number one since 1999 in the years the show is held. The next CONEXPO-CON/AGG and IFPE will be held March 22-26, 2011 in Las Vegas, USA (,

Encouraging co-location of industry events to create maximum value for participants has been integral to success, notes the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. AEM has an ownership stake in and manages the shows. This partnering philosophy is a key tenet of the AEM trade show model.

“There is additional value to a co-located event when an exhibitor or attendee can reduce their overall travel but still accomplish their business needs by meeting with the groups necessary to increase their ROI,” Megan Tanel, AEM’s vice president of exhibitions and events, explained to Tradeshow Week.

AEM uses this model for all its trade shows. Later in 2009 is ICUEE-The Demo Expo (October 6-8 in Louisville, Kentucky – ). Again, an added dimension is co-locations. New to ICUEE 2009 is the co-location of the National Rural Water Association’s inaugural exposition and its annual conference, as well as co-location of the IUV Technical Conference and exhibit pavilion (design and engineering) and the iP Safety Conference and Safety Zone exhibit pavilion (safety and training).

Looking to 2010, World of Asphalt and co-located AGG1 Aggregates Forum & Expo are slated for February 15-18, 2010 in Cincinnati, Ohio (, And, in 2010 AEM launches AG CONNECT Expo for agriculture (January 13-15 in Orlando, Florida Numerous industry groups have announced events to be held at the show.

Tanel emphasizes that size is not the primary goal for any AEM-run trade show. “Our focus is making these events value added for the industries we represent by creating one-stop events where participants can efficiently get the business intelligence they need to make informed decisions in today’s changing economy,” she said.

“We are an industry association. Keeping rates affordable, working with exhibitors to ensure a seamless trade show experience, offering more education and networking for attendees – in good times or bad, we wouldn’t be successful if we didn’t run quality shows that put industry needs first,” Tanel concluded.
