Chabot-Las Positas Community College District's OSHA Training Center extends education to Guam

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

PLEASANTON, CA — Chabot-Las Positas Community College District has recently signed an agreement with the Guam Contractors Association Trades Academy (GTCA) to provide the island of Guam with OSHA certified training. The partnership will allow GCTA to teach the OSHA Training Center’s curriculum.

“We are excited to partner with the academy because employees will always need to be safeguarded from injury. This new partnership will save the lives of Guam employees and also create jobs on the island,” said Associate Director of the OSHA Training Center Larry Chesney.

As a United States territory in the western Pacific, Guam’s economy is largely supported by international tourism and U. S. military bases. Many federal contracts on the island require certified training of onsite personnel. The addition of the OSHA Training Center will provide necessary federally recognized training, and residents will have the opportunity to obtain certifications to teach classes at the academy.

Courses will provide the basics of workplace safety in general industry and construction. Additional industry-specific classes hosted by the OSHA Training Center will be available via the academy’s satellite classroom.

The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District’s OSHA Training Center is one of eight new centers in the U.S. this year, and the only center to service Northern California.
