Briggs Equipment, Growing a Legacy

Sunday, July 1, 2012

On May 1, 2012, one of the country’s oldest materials handling equipment companies began a new chapter in its long history when it expanded operations and became an authorized Hyster dealer. Briggs Equipment took over for exiting Barloworld and opened its doors in 15 new cities in the south and southeast. The move makes Briggs one of the largest industrial equipment companies in the world with 32 facilities in 10 states in the US as well as operations in Mexico and the United Kingdom. The expansion means better service for Briggs customers and more opportunities for its 2000 employees.

This is Briggs’ fourth major acquisition in the last 6 years and another sign of success for the 116 year-old company. Briggs opened its doors in 1896 in Dallas, Texas. The company originally provided mill supplies and expanded in the 1940’s to lift trucks and industrial equipment.

While experiencing rapid growth, the company built a reputation of providing the best industrial equipment and services to many specialized industries throughout the southwest region. It’s that solid reputation that has helped Briggs survive some the country’s most turbulent economic times such as the Great Depression and the most recent economic turmoil.

Briggs Equipment is consistently recognized as a top distributor for the lines they carry and today, it is one of the most efficiently run materials handling companies in the world.

“The innovation, dedication and passion that our employees bring to work and share with customers each day drives our success,” says Mike Winemiller, President Briggs International. “Our employees and our culture make Briggs stand out from the other companies. Our customers know and trust that they have a great partner with us.”

To ensure Briggs Equipment continues to build on its successes and grow it’s 116 year legacy of best in class service and products, the company will continue to look for new opportunities to expand its distribution and provide consistent and quality service to its customers around the globe.
