Bond – 105 Years and Still Rolling

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

The Bond Caster and Wheel Corporation have occupied the 6-1/2 acre South Penn Street campus for 105 years on September 14, 2010. Many families in Manheim, PA grew up with parents, grand parents and great grand parents who worked and retired at Bond. Today Bond continues to employ from the area, many still from Manheim. Louis J. Bond is the Fourth generation Bond family member to lead the company.

Lou Bond’s grandfather initiated the company providing belting and power transmission products for the flourishing Mill Industry in Lancaster County. Bond Caster and Wheel’s product line includes casters; swivel, stationary and special purpose casters with wheels from 2 to 18 inches in diameter. Today these products support local fabrication and manufacturing companies producing quarry rollers, farm equipment, displays racks and cabinetry, plus material handling, forestry, and food processing equipment. Nationally and internationally Bond is known for its quality goods covering many other industries; ceramics, automotive material management, brick making, bakeries, and mining. But you will also see Bond products in your clothing retailer, on automotive or bakery racks or even in your home on the paper-boy look carts used as a casual coffee table.

Since 1929 Bond’s tripod dolly, often referred to as skates or cup dolly, has moved equipment around the world. The Model 2127 is used almost exclusively to move top heavy commercial kitchen equipment. This line has grown to include units that support from 325 lbs to 3500 lbs. per dolly; aiding manufacturers, rigging companies and commercial moving companies with their offering.

Bond Caster is one of a few remaining domestic caster suppliers. Bond uses local materials and labor to produce American made goods. Local foundries, metal suppliers and metal finishing companies help Bond to support its continued growth along with our local Lancaster County Pennsylvania craftsman.

Many products shipped today were designed during the early 1900’s. As in the past, the Bond products of today are known as the Gold standard of the industry.

In 2000 Bond Caster and Wheel purchased DJM Machine and Fabrication, a Leola, PA company and moved the business two years later to Manheim. DJM Machine was renamed in 2005 to Bond Machine and Fabrication. Growing each year, even through last year’s recession, this business supports local companies with components, service, and repairs to equipment. Bond Machine and Bond Caster’s synergy has aided in supporting each other as well as customers requiring service and products produced by each group.

We plan to be here throughout the next century and look forward to supporting business worldwide in the coming years.
