Atlet, Inc.’s Newest Forklift & Reach Products Focus On High Productivity, Ergonomics

Thursday, February 1, 2007

Atlet AB, headquartered in Sweden, is a leading global manufacturer of advanced logistics materials handling equipment, with sales and distribution capabilities worldwide, and a leading narrow-aisle lift truck manufacturer. In the U.S., Atlet AB is represented by Atlet, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Atlet products in North America.

After twenty years of operation, Atlet Inc. has become one of the most prominent marketers of specialized materials handling equipment in both the U.S. and Canada. Company headquarters and administrative offices are located in Anaheim, California, and a central distribution and parts facility is located in Schaumburg, Illinois. Corporate and sales offices are maintained in the eastern, mid-west and western regions of the U.S., and a close-knit network of independent materials handling dealers, consultants and agents provide sales and technical expertise, service and warranty fulfillment to Atlet Inc.’s growing family of customers.

Atlet, Inc. manufactures a full line of conventional, narrow aisle, and very narrow aisle lift trucks for North America. The company also offers computer simulation of warehouse needs and specializes in state-of-the-art, ergonomically-designed equipment that provides more efficient use of warehouse space.

This year, with a focus on building and providing efficient, reliable, high-quality trucks, Atlet has introduced several new products to North America that offer a new level of work productivity, while providing forklift operators a new level of safe, ergonomic features.

Forte Reach Truck – Ergonomic Workhorse
Originally unveiled at CeMat, the ‘World Fair of Intralogistics’ in Hannover, Germany, the Forte UNS Tergo is the latest release in Atlet’s award-winning UNS Tergo reach truck series. Designed and built to withstand the hard-and-fast work cycles and sustained productivity demanded by today’s high-volume distribution centers and warehouses, Forte provides a new level of performance substantially higher than Atlet’s previous UNS model, independently rated as the fastest-accelerating reach truck on the market.

Mike Yacks, Cost Reduction Specialist for Atlet Sales USA, explains that ‘The Forte’s improvements make pallet transport and stacking much quicker. For example, driving speed has been increased by no less than 16%, to a maximum of 8.6 miles per hour, and its stacking operations are also faster. With new lift/lower motors, lift speed has been increased by 20% to 137.7 foot per minute.”

Arguably the safest high-performance lift truck on the market, the Forte is fitted with Atlet’s unique Stability Support System (S3) which automatically provides higher truck stability by governing speed and acceleration. S3, governed by the Atlet Truck Computer (ATC), also provides an interface between speed and steering sensitivity. Forte automatically reduces truck function speed in proportion to the lift height, and overrides unsafe maneuvers. The ATC also allows the truck driver to easily program preferred driving styles or levels of competence. As many as 350 individual driver profiles can be programmed and stored into the ATC memory, and the ATC includes a PIN code access system to limit unauthorized use.

Forte’s enhancements to Atlet’s UNS Tergo ‘best in class’ ergonomics, means drivers experience a design focused on reducing and eliminating repetitive strain injuries (RSI), which costs companies millions of dollars a year in absenteeism and lost production. For example, Forte’s easy-entry cab provides an infinite number of seat adjustments to accommodate size. Its free-floating armrest and palm-of-the-hand mini steering wheel reduce shoulder and arm strain, and the automatically tilting seat provides a clear upward view when stacking, reducing driver neck strain and improving safety.

Tempo PPS – Scissor-Lift Order Picker
A new addition to Atlet’s tremendous range of Low-Level Order Pickers is the PPS. With a scissor-type lifting attachment under the forks, the PPS is designed to provide maximum efficiency in handling open-faced skids or load carriers. The heavy-duty scissor lift provides improved ergonomics by allowing the picker to have the load at the correct picking height.

The PPS is rated at 4,400 pounds, and capacity at 48” load center with double-length forks. There are two versions; one with a fixed platform and one with driver lift.

Storage Analyzer CD – Free Tool for Warehouse Configuration
Warehouse operators, distribution center managers, and general facility managers now have access to a new, free tool from Atlet, called the Storage Systems Analyzer CD, with warehouse calculation estimator. The 3-1/8” diameter CD, though small in size, details in color the twelve most popular warehousing systems and helps users analyze the pros and cons of each. It also allows users to calculate rough estimates of the storage capacity of their warehouse using each of these popular configurations.

Eric Schmidt, Marketing Manager and Lead Specialist for Atlet, says “The new storage selector CD helps users answer the question ‘How big of a warehouse do I need to store a given number of pallets?’ Or alternatively, it answers ‘How many pallets can I store in a given area?’”

Atlet makes the CD available free of charge to qualified warehouse operators, facility managers, or distribution center managers nationwide.
