APICS Increases Opportunities for Young Professionals and Students to Earn Valuable Certifications

Tuesday, April 7, 2009

CHICAGO, IL — APICS The Association for Operations Management, the global leader in supply chain and operations management certification and education, has helped 100 future operations management leaders begin the process of earning their APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) certification through the APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program.

The APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program is a joint project of APICS, the APICS Educational and Research (E&R) Foundation, and Pearson VUE, the leading global provider of computer-based testing and administrator of APICS CPIM exams worldwide. The program helps students increase their readiness to enter the workforce in today’s increasingly challenging global marketplace by providing opportunities to earn the APICS CPIM certification.

"The APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program is an outstanding initiative that offers students the opportunity to start their certification process while still in school," said Conestoga College professor Tracey Lopers. "These students recognize the value of the APICS CPIM certification in the marketplace and the applicability of the education to their careers and the global economy as a whole."

"In addition to internships, the APICS CPIM exams are the ideal way for students to position themselves as they graduate and enter the workforce in this difficult job market," stated University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire professor Terry Wells. The APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program increases students' ability to pass the exams necessary to earn the APICS CPIM certification—a world renowned certification that is preferred or required by employers across the globe for the more than thirty-five years.

"APICS certification and training advances the operations management profession, students who graduate college with their APICS CPIM certification have a significant advantage over their peers," said APICS E&R Foundation executive director Bob Collins, CFPIM, CIRM, CSCP. "The APICS community is eager to assist its student members in increasing their functional knowledge of production and inventory management through the globally-recognized APICS CPIM certification."

"The APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program provides a start for students looking to embark on a career bolstered by CPIM certification which will ultimately enhance their credibility among peers and potential employers," Pearson VUE president Robert Whelan said.

"The APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program opened the door to earning the APICS CPIM certification for me," said University of Wisconsin—Eau Claire student Emilee Duffey. "This program has helped me set myself apart from other students and increase my career opportunities."

The APICS CPIM Pearson VUE Jumpstart Program vouchers waive testing fees for the APICS Basics of Supply Chain Management exam. Voucher recipients are selected by an annual lottery held in mid-February. The APICS CPIM designation has been earned by more than 90,000 manufacturing professionals since 1973. The Basics of Supply Chain Management exam is the first of the five exams required to earn APICS CPIM certification.
