Westfalia Technologies honored on 2015 FL100+ list

Friday, December 18, 2015

Westfalia Technologies, Inc., provider of logistics solutions for plants, warehouses and distribution centers since 1992, has been named to Food Logistics’ 2015 FL100+ list. In Westfalia’s second consecutive year on the list, the publication acknowledges the company for helping food and beverage manufacturers and distributors optimize processes, maximize efficiencies and unveil cost savings with warehouse automation technology.

“Due to the shortage of drivers and the declining reliability of the trucking industry, many of today’s food and beverage companies struggle with quickly fulfilling orders and meeting consumer demand,” said Dan Labell, president, Westfalia Technologies. “With automation technology, like automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), F&B warehouses can overcome these challenges by implementing just-in-time (JIT) order fulfillment strategies. As a result, manufacturers and distributors can prepare orders when the truck arrives, thereby, keeping inventory flowing throughout the warehouse.”

For more than a decade, the editors of Food Logistics have profiled software and technology providers that hold influential roles in the global food and beverage supply chain. Their products benefit the industry in multiple ways, from reducing food waste and extending shelf life, to facilitating safe and sanitary transportation of product while assuring regulatory compliance.

“Developments in the software and technology sector are generating new opportunities for growers, food manufacturers, grocery retailers and the many logistics providers that support them,” said Lara L. Sowinski, editor-in-chief at Food Logistics. “Moreover, cloud-based solutions and mobile connectivity are helping create tools that are more flexible, affordable and responsive, making software and technology even more valuable to those in the global food supply chain.”

In addition to using Westfalia’s AS/RS, food and beverage companies are realizing additional efficiencies with the solution provider’s Warehouse Execution System (WES), Savanna.NET®. A software solution that combines a tightly integrated warehouse management system (WMS) and warehouse control system (WCS), Savanna.NET® enables food and beverage manufacturers and distributors to direct, control and optimize internal material flow and order picking. As a result, they can more efficiently utilize warehouse space and equipment, increase order accuracy, improve customer service, reduce the risk of lost or damaged product, and raise throughput and productivity.
