Hutt adds 81.000 sq. ft. of deep frozen storageMonday, October 30, 2017
Hutt Logistics and Hutt Trucking (“Hutt”), a West Michigan-based transportation, logistics and warehousing services provider, announced it has completed the expansion of their Hudsonville, Mich. warehouse. The 81,000 square feet addition to the existing building more than doubles the company’s total deep-frozen food storage capacity.
Effective with bringing this expansion online, Hutt can now store more than 19,000 pallets at its Hudsonville location. Hutt further expects the growth of this facility to help create 20 or more full-time jobs at the Hudsonville site, and up to 10 additional positions within its transportation company.
“Our customers are growing and we anticipated the need to expand in Hudsonville since acquiring the facility in 2016,” said Jim Hutt, CEO of Hutt. “With our Holland-based transportation operations, Hudsonville has been a great hub for Hutt’s logistics operations. The decision to increase our deep-frozen warehousing capabilities in Hudsonville was the logical next step in our growth.”
Hutt stores and transports food product requiring deep frozen (up to-20 degrees) capability and process control. Among its customers are Ludington-favorite House of Flavors, and Holland-based Hudsonville Ice Cream. Both utilize Hutt to store and ship ice cream to destinations across the Midwest.
“Hutt adds value to our company by optimizing our transportation and storage processes, so we can focus on making more and better ice cream products,” said Whit Gallagher, president of House of Flavors, Inc. “With this new facility, Hutt can help us more efficiently store more products, deliver it to our key accounts, which gives us more room in Ludington for growth.”
The Hutt warehouse expansion was assisted by Lakeshore Advantage and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and made possible with active cooperation from the city of Hudsonville. Earlier this year, the city approved Hutt’s P.A. 198 application to develop the facility and bring additional jobs to the Hudsonville area as part of the planned expansion.
“Creating more manufacturing and related jobs within the Lakeshore region is our priority. We were happy to lend our support and services to facilitate Hutt’s expansion,” said Ken Rizzio, director of Business Services at Lakeshore Advantage. “We are also very fortunate to have pro-business leaders in the city of Hudsonville. They clearly understand the city’s great connectivity to Michigan’s manufacturing and supply chain systems. Their cooperation and assistance has been exemplary!”
ARCO Design/Build, based in Atlanta, Ga. specializes in building cold storage warehouses and was tasked with design and construction of the Hutt warehouse expansion. The new Hudsonville facility re-orients the trucking docks to optimize warehouse efficiency and incorporate energy efficient, state of the art technology.
“The success of Hutt’s Hudsonville expansion can be attributed to the working relationship the ARCO team had with our customer, the City of Hudsonville, and the West Michigan community,” added Brian Osterloh, director of business development for ARCO. “ARCO’s design and construction competencies were an ideal professional and cultural fit with this project. We are delighted to have been a part helping build a very efficient facility that will best reliably serve Hutt, its customers and stakeholders.”
All Hutt facilities, including the Hudsonville warehouse, are inspected and qualified by the American Institute of Baking (AIB), the industry standard for safety in food handling and storage.View all Industry News
