ExOne Expands 3D Metal Printing Capability and Adds to Suite of Binder Solutions: The ExOne Company, a global provider of three-dimensional ("3D") printing machines and printed products to industrial customers, announced today that it added iron infiltrated with bronze as a new 3D printing material and has also increased its suite of binder solutions for its 3D printing process. ExOne's strategy is to expand its direct metal printing capabilities to increase opportunities in the industrial marketplace. Iron is widely used in the manufacturing of machine tools, automotive parts and general support structures. Part of the reason for iron's popularity as an industrial product is its cost effectiveness. Manufacturing iron-based products using ExOne's 3D printing technology allows for the direct creation of more intricate products than traditional manufacturing processes, and creates a more cost effective alternative to current 3D printing materials such as stainless steel. Big Box Segment Carries the Load; Offsets Small Declines in Trailers and ISO Containers: Domestic container volume continued its steady performance in the second quarter of 2013 with 9 percent year-over-year gains, largely attributable to a strong big box segment, with total intermodal traffic rising by 2.4 percent for the quarter. International volume was unable to build on its solid Q1 growth, falling 1.3 percent in Q2 after posting 3 percent gains in Q1. This decline can be attributed to surprisingly weak shipments in June, with loads falling 6 percent from a year ago. It is unclear if the June trail off is an indicator of more to come or if the 6 percent dip is an outlier. Intermodal trailer volumes declined 2.5 percent when compared to 2012’s Q2, but this loss was less than half of the decrease in loads experienced in Q1. Read full article

Service Department - Setting the Expectation: When it comes to running your service department, it’s important to have measurable goals and expectations set in place. Many of these goals should be standing and should only change with changes in the economy or territory. Other goals you can set to meet expectations at the time. These can be tied to specials, training, or specific dealership targets for that quarter or year. The important part is that you’re establishing the expectation and communicating to the group what that expectation is. We’re going to look at some expectations that you can set up to keep everyone reaching for the same goal. Service Billing Per Technician I’m sure each and every dealership can track how much revenue you make per technician.
