hyster_in_jul13.jpgDuck Commander Makes Right “Call” with Hyster® Lift Truck: Hyster Company has supplied one of its Hyster® J35XN lift trucks to the duck-men of Duck Commander, makers of world-famous duck calls. The Duck Commander business experienced significant growth in 2012 as a result of their popular television show, and needed to make significant operational improvements. They asked the local Hyster Dealer, Deep South Equipment, to help them make their facility more productive. Deep South Equipment installed racking in the warehouse, and recommended the electric Hyster J35XN lift truck for its tight turning radius, its low cost of operation and its durability. “There is no doubt that Willie, Phil and the other duck-men are tough guys,” said John Parsons, president/owner of Deep South Equipment. “That’s why it makes sense that Duck Commander chose a tough Hyster forklift to help move their business forward.” Read full article

Kalmar Raises The Bar With The New Light Range Of Forklift Trucks: Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has announced the launch of the DCF50-90 forklift truck, the latest in the series of industry-leading light range of 5-9 tonne capacity machines. The new truck boasts several technological improvements designed to boost operational efficiency and provide the driver with a high level of comfort, for round-the-clock operations. It is the first in the new generation of light machines to be equipped with an SCR traction control system. Along with the new 77kW and 85kW Agco engines, they combine to reduce fuel consumption and meet the latest EU (Stage IIIB, Tier 4i) emission requirements. The new engine also creates less vibration and is mounted under the cabin, where an automatically operated hydraulic fan is situated. Read full article


Plug Power Announces Industry's Highest Capacity Fuel Cell for Material Handling Applications: Plug Power Inc. a leader in providing clean, reliable energy solutions, announced the GenDrive Series 1000 product family has a new member, the GenDrive 1900. It is Plug Power's highest-power fuel cell yet and one of the largest developed for material handling applications. The GenDrive 1900 is designed as a drop-in replacement for lead-acid batteries on six-ton capacity, four-wheel, class-one counterbalanced forklift trucks. Six-ton forklift trucks are among the most popular large-capacity forklift trucks in use. The new fuel cell is the company's first to feature an optional second hydrogen tank to double hydrogen capacity. With both tanks installed, the fuel cell can store up to 3.4 kg of hydrogen with an energy capacity of 50 kilowatt-hours (kWhr). Read full article

The process of receiving a part into inventory is just as important as picking or removing the part from inventory. A little extra thought on the receiving end leads to benefits on the picking end. A solid slotting plan to receive and store parts in a facility can lead to quicker and more accurate picking distribution. Slotting is the concept of using data analysis to create a logical process to assign every part a location based on specific attributes of the part.
